Diaphragm pumps for spraying machines

CUSTOMER PROBLEMS AND CHALLENGES

The customer manufactures polyurethane foam spraying machines that rely on pumps powered by compressed air. Each machine requires two pumps to pre-feed key components — isocyanate and polyol — into a high-pressure system.

Initially, plunger pumps were used for this purpose, but their limited service life led to frequent breakdowns and premature failures. This posed a serious challenge, as the machines are produced on a large scale and exported worldwide — making reliability absolutely essential. Any failures can lead to costly complaints and reputational damage.

The customer needed a dependable, long-term partner capable of supplying high-quality pumps in the volumes required for series production. Pricing was also a key factor, as the cost of the pump directly affects the competitiveness of the complete spraying machine.

TAPFLO ACTIVITIES

As a manufacturer ourselves, we fully understand the expectations placed on equipment suppliers in the machinery industry — particularly the importance of delivering reliable, high-quality components for integration into finished systems.

For this application, Tapflo diaphragm pumps proved to be an ideal solution. Their construction ensures complete isolation of the pumped media from the external environment — a critical advantage when handling substances that react with moisture in the air and solidify irreversibly.

Another benefit of pneumatic diaphragm pumps is their ability to automatically adjust flow based on the demand of the main high-pressure pump, while maintaining a constant inlet pressure (typically 3–4 bar). This feature makes them especially well-suited for pre-feeding reactive components such as isocyanate and polyol. Based on these characteristics, we recommended the use of Tapflo diaphragm pumps with a versatile design capable of handling both components efficiently.

An added value for the customer was Tapflo’s nationwide service network, ensuring that technical support is available to the end users of the machines whenever needed.

RESULT

The customer appreciates the long service life of the Tapflo diaphragm pumps currently in use and has been equipping their machines with them for over 20 years.

CUSTOMER OPINION

I recommend cooperation with Tapflo. Our partnership has significantly improved the reliability and quality of our machines. We began working together in 2003 by integrating Tapflo diaphragm pumps into our equipment. Their design ensures complete isolation of the processed components from external conditions—especially important when handling moisture-sensitive substances that irreversibly solidify upon contact with air. Compared to previously used plunger pumps, Tapflo diaphragm pumps have completely eliminated recurring issues. The sales team provided expert support in selecting the right pump specifications, materials, and construction. While we rarely need post-purchase service, knowing it’s available provides us with the confidence to meet all customer orders on time and to the highest standard.

I fully recommend Tapflo as a trusted and reliable partner. Years of cooperation have proven their commitment to quality, consistency, and professionalism.
