How Tapflo Redefines Wastewater Treatment
with Diaphragm Pumps

Tapflo, with its 45 years of experience in manufacturing industrial pumps, offers a wide range of solutions for the wastewater treatment sector.
The company’s pumps are utilized in various processes related to the transportation and dosing of liquids and sludge in wastewater treatment plants.

Proven Performance in Real-World Applications

One of Tapflo’s notable successes is in a wastewater treatment plant in the Czech Republic, where the Swedish company’s pumps have proven to be highly effective. In this particular plant, all liquid transport processes are managed by Tapflo pumps. T100 PTT pump set, equipped with DT100 PT pulsation dampeners and air treatment systems, is used for dosing and transferring chemicals responsible for processes such as raising and lowering pH in the wastewater neutralization process, coagulation, and adsorption. Additionally, the Tapflo T420 SEE pump is used for sludge transfer, and the TF100 PEE pump supplies the filter press with sludge.

Tapflo pumps are characterized by their simple design, ease of use and maintenance, and low operating costs. They are reliable and versatile, making them suitable for many industrial sectors, including wastewater treatment. Thanks to their high-quality construction and the use of modern technologies, Tapflo pumps ensure efficient and safe operation in challenging industrial conditions.

The company’s range of heavy-duty wastewater treatment pumps, typically constructed from AISI 316 stainless steel, are available in corrosion-resistant, explosion-proof, self-priming, and portable configurations on request. The Tapflo diaphragm drum pump, for example, is ideal for mobile use and is fitted with a drum tube in polypropylene (PP) or PTFE and a handle in stainless steel AISI 316L. The drum tube can be delivered in any length up to 2 meters. Tapflo is a leader in the production of diaphragm pumps, offering innovative and reliable solutions for the wastewater treatment sector.

Enhanced Durability with CNC-Machined Plastic Pumps

Tapflo plastic pumps are made of PE (Polyethylene) and in comparison to the standard PP (Polypropylene) pump offer a range of benefits like better temperature and chemical resistance. What is more, the pumps are CNC machined from solid block instead of injection molded therefore ensuring much better abrasion resistance and lower wear over time which is very important in the wastewater treatment sector where liquids usually contain a high concentration of abrasive solids.

Case Study: Long-Term Reliability in Switzerland

One of the prime examples showing the advantage of a diaphragm pump over other pumping technologies is an application in Switzerland where a Tapflo EODD has been fitted to replace an existing hose and screw pump. Since the pump has to operate 24/7 there is a very small window for maintenance during the year. Utilizing the aforementioned pumps, where an abrasive liquid quickly damages the hose or stator, generated a more frequent need for maintenance. The diaphragm pump, due to its sensitive nature of liquid transfer, was able to withstand more than 1 year of constant operation without failure pumping a sludge with limescale.

Optimized Filter Press Operations with Air-Driven Diaphragm Pumps

The air driven diaphragm pumps offer another advantage over motor driven positive displacement pumps. They are the perfect solution for filter-press feeding. There is no need for any auxiliary equipment like by-pass installations, safety valves, pressure switches or expensive frequency inverters to control the pump. You just run the pump and it automatically adjust the speed depending on how full is the filter-press. At the end of the cycle, when the press is full, the pump simply stops without any damage. The filter press is equipped with a pressure booster that allows the pump to operate up to 16 bar and optionally can also be fitted with an Eco-Boost system allowing to optimize the air consumption during the filling cycle.
