Operation principle

Operating principle of the Tapflo centrifugal pump

The two main parts of a centrifugal pump are the impeller with vanes and the pump casing. Liquid enters the pump through the suction connection near the center of the rapidly rotating impeller. The liquid on the suction side moves along the impeller axis and, due to the centrifugal force generated by the vanes, is thrown radially outwards into a chamber in the casing. The casing gradually expands in a spiral towards the discharge nozzle, which reduces the liquid velocity and thus increases the pressure (diffuser effect). At the same time, as the liquid is thrown radially outwards by the impeller towards the discharge connection due to centrifugal force, the pressure at the center of the impeller drops, enhancing the suction effect of the liquid into the pump, which enables a continuous liquid transfer process.

Construction

Modular design

Modular design of Tapflo CTX centrifugal pumps
The modular design of the CTX series centrifugal pumps ensures greater flexibility in adapting to various operating conditions. This also means greater pump versatility and quick and easy upgrade possibilities. Interchangeability of parts between different pump types and sizes makes operation and maintenance cheaper and easier. Compared to their counterparts in the CTI and CTH range – Tapflo CTX-I and CTX-H centrifugal pumps can achieve higher pressures and are available in larger sizes, providing a more versatile flow range.
Open impeller for Tapflo CTX centrifugal pumps

Open impeller

CTX series pumps have an open impeller with a robust design, high efficiency and low Net Positive Suction Head required (NPSHr). CTX series pumps with an open impeller are both easy to clean and suitable for pumping liquids containing solids.
Adapting the performance of CTX pumps to specific operating points or ranges can be done by machining impellers at constant speeds or by adjusting the pump speed with constant impeller diameters.

Hygienic mechanical seal system

Single mechanical seal

The mechanical seal spring is not in contact with the pumped liquid, which makes the internal pump chamber fully washable.

Single mechanical seal of Tapflo CTX centrifugal pumps
Double mechanical seal

Used when the liquid and its vapors pose a threat to the operator or the environment and must be contained, when aggressive media are used at high pressures or temperatures, and also for many polymerizing and crystallizing media.

Variety of connections

DIN 11851, DIN 32676 and other connections (on customer request).

Casings available in Ra<0.5 μm

Wetted parts electropolished to Ra<0.8 μm as standard (Ra <0.5 μm on request), external surfaces glass blasted to Ra<3.2 μm.

Self-Priming Centrifugal Pumps | CTX S series

Thanks to the self-priming capability, the CTX-S series pump can be used in situations where it is necessary to lift liquid from a level below the pump.

Since the standard CTX pump is not able to create a vacuum, a simple modification allows the pump to lift liquid from a height of up to 5 m. After the initial priming, the return pipe will recirculate liquid from the discharge side of the pump to ensure the liquid ring is maintained inside the pump.

Design of Tapflo CTX S industrial self-priming centrifugal pump

The self-priming option is easy to adapt to existing pumps by replacing the front cover and adding a vent screw.
