Pressure switches and transducers
Dedicated safety systems. Pressure switch Pressure switch is a device designed to signal exceeding pressure. In the case of mechanical pressure switches, the specified pressure threshold is most often set using a screw. The pressure switch can protect the pump against pressure increase on the discharge side or against dry running (pressure drop signals lack of medium). The pressure switch is the simplest element that protects the pump against pressure increase.
Dedicated safety systems. Electronic pressure switch Electronic pressure switch is a fully configurable system that allows full control of settings. In the electronic pressure switch, we can set both the activation threshold (depending on the version, with an accuracy of up to 0.05 bar) and the activation delay time. In addition, 2 switching outputs allow monitoring of 2 independent pressure thresholds, and the window function allows signaling whether the pressure is within a specified range. Versions with an additional analog output are also available.
Dedicated safety systems. Pressure transducer Pressure transducer is a system that converts the pressure value into an analog electrical signal, most often a 4-20 mA current signal. Compared to electronic pressure switches, pressure transducers are characterized by much higher accuracy. Due to their robust housing, pressure transducers are ideal for harsh working conditions, where they are exposed to changing atmospheric conditions, dust or mechanical damage. Pressure transducers are also often used in explosion hazard zones, where the use of electronic pressure switches is impossible due to the lack of appropriate certificates.
Medium presence sensors
Dedicated safety systems. Tuning fork sensors Tuning fork sensors are used to detect the presence of media in pipelines or to detect limit values in tanks. When the forks of the tuning fork sensor are immersed in the medium, the frequency of the resonant vibrations changes, which results in a change of state at the sensor’s switching output. Depending on the application requirements, various process connections, hygienic designs or designs for explosion hazard zones are available.
Dedicated safety systems. Optical sensor Optical sensor is a sensor designed to control the presence of medium or to control water-based liquids. The sensor, operating on the principle of a proximity switch, detects the presence of a medium based on the change in light reflection conditions on the prismatic cone. This sensor is characterized by a compact and robust design allowing for installation in places with tight construction. This maintenance-free and calibration-free sensor is perfect as protection against dry running of pumps or as protection of tanks against overflow.
Dedicated safety systems. Capacitive sensors Capacitive sensors allow for the detection of objects hidden behind a surface. These sensors can be used to detect the level of medium in a tank or the presence of medium in a pipeline. When an object, e.g., a medium, is in front of the tank, the electrical capacity of the system changes, which results in a change of state at the sensor’s switching output. The capacitive measuring principle allows the sensor to be installed without interfering with the existing system, and the available PTFE design allows the sensor to be used in the most demanding applications.
Flow indicators
Dedicated security systems. Paddle flow indicators Paddle flow indicators are the simplest devices used to protect pumps against dry running. The medium flowing through the pipeline deflects the paddle of the flow indicator. This deflection causes the magnet coupled to the paddle to move. When the paddle returns to the vertical position, the magnet returns to its original position, resulting in a change of state at the sensor’s switching output.
Dedicated security systems. Calorimetric flow indicator Calorimetric flow indicator, compared to the paddle flow indicator, is characterized by the lack of moving parts, which extends the sensor’s lifespan while ensuring the device’s reliability. Inside the sensor, there is a miniature heating element that heats the sensor. The flowing medium absorbs heat from the sensor, cooling its surface, and the electronic system (built into the sensor or in a separate version) measures the temperature inside the system. If the temperature exceeds a certain threshold, it indicates a lack of medium flow and results in a change of the switching output state in the electronic system.
Dedicated security systems. Flowmeter Flowmeters are devices that measure the flow of a medium. Depending on the type of medium, there are many ways to measure flow: from oval gear flowmeters through electromagnetic and ultrasonic flowmeters to Coriolis mass flowmeters or Vortex flowmeters. Flowmeters, in addition to measuring flow, can also have the option of signaling an empty pipe or measuring the density of the medium. In the simplest dry-run protection system, the flowmeter signals too low a flow rate via a switching output. Additionally, flowmeters are equipped with a pulse or analog output enabling continuous flow measurement for signaling in a DCS system or flow regulation, e.g., via a frequency converter with a built-in PID controller.
